Tour Outsider: Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Review

It is now time to review the picks for the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial to see how the results turned out.

Here are the results of the Tour Outsider (my) picks.

Rank Player CLi Rank Earnings
Rd4 Rd3 Rd2 Rd1 Actual
1 S Kenny Perry 8.00 46 53 25 34 $16,592
2 S Anthony Kim 8.50 40 61 52 24 $23,180
3 S Jim Furyk 11.45 MC MC 99 54 $0
4 S Stephen Ames 22.85 4 2 5 13 $292,800
5 S Chad Campbell 23.05 MC MC 104 116 $0

I had one good finisher in Ames. He finished 4th. That was good to see. Then had two players that didn't make the weekend. That was not good to see. Both Furyk and Campbell missed the cut, while they should have been sure "good pick" to at least make the cut much less place well. It goes to show that in golf there are no sure bets.

Here are the results of the Tour Insider (Dave Shedloski) picks.

Here is the comparison between the Tour Outsider and Tour Insider picks.

Tour Outsider Tour Insider Winner
Total Earnings $332,572 $1,157,902 TI

The Total Earnings category was won by the Tour Insider.

The Tour Insider won the Avg Rank category.

The Made Cut category was a draw.

This tournament overall was won by the Tour Insider.

The overall results between the Tour Outsider and the Tour Insider year to date is, 12 wins to the Tour Outsider, 6 wins to the Tour Insider, and 5 draws.

The CLi top 15 looked like this (see below).

Tour Outsider: Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial

This week the US PGA Tour heads back to Texas for a 3rd time this year. Players will be in Ben Hogan's backyard to play the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.

Let's look at the Golf CLi and see who the top 15 players are for the tournament ranked by the CLi figure.

Rank Player CLi
1 S Kenny Perry 8.00
2 S Anthony Kim 8.50
3 S Jim Furyk 11.45
4 S Ben Crane 22.50
5 S Stephen Ames 22.85
6 S Chad Campbell 23.05
7 S Pat Perez 24.00
8 S Justin Leonard 24.10
9 S Marco Dawson 25.60
10 S Jeff Quinney 27.10
11 S David Toms 28.55
12 S Phil Mickelson 28.75
13 S Jason Bohn 31.10
14 S Briny Baird 32.80
15 S Steve Flesch 33.80

This week we see Kenny Perry on to of the CLi rankings. That is no surprise as he plays well at Colonial and he has been playing well lately. He placed 2nd last week in the AT&T Classic (losing in a playoff to Imada), and 15th in the Players Championship. So, I will definitely include him this week in my picks.

I will go with the top 3 in the CLi rankings: Perry, Kim and Furyk. I am going to skip over Ben Crane, as he hurt me last week with a WD. Then will pick the next two players in the CLi rankings list: Ames and Campbell.

So the Tour Outsider picks for the Crowne Plaza Invitational are:

Rank Player CLi
1 S Kenny Perry 8.00
2 S Anthony Kim 8.50
3 S Jim Furyk 11.45
4 S Stephen Ames 22.85
5 S Chad Campbell 23.05

The Tour Insider's (Dave Shedloski) picks are:

We have 2 players in common in this tournament: Furyk and Perry.

Tour Outsider: AT&T Classic Review

It is now time to review the picks for the AT&T Classic to see how the results turned out.

Here are the results of the Tour Outsider (my) picks.

Rank Player CLi Rank Earnings
Rd4 Rd3 Rd2 Rd1 Actual
1 S Briny Baird 7.70 11 25 29 57 $102,667
2 S Stewart Cink 11.40 11 18 10 10 $102,667
3 S Camilo Villegas 31.55 3 9 7 10 $374,000
4 S Steve Flesch 33.40 25 49 29 10 $42,900

There are only four (4) picks shown above. The reason is that Ben Crane decided to withdraw the day before the tournament, so he is not in the list. He was the top player in the CLi rankings before he pulled out, and I picked him. So that means I will get hit with a MC (missed cut) and a ranking of last place in the tournament (156th place). Other than that, my picks did rather well and overall, the CLi top 15 did well. The CLi top 15 only had 2 missed cuts.

Here are the results of the Tour Insider (Dave Shedloski) picks.

Here is the comparison between the Tour Outsider and Tour Insider picks.

Tour Outsider Tour Insider Winner
Total Earnings $622,234 $1,098,442 TI

The Total Earnings category was won by the Tour Insider.

The Avg Rank category was a draw.

The Made Cut category was a draw.

This tournament overall was won by the Tour Insider.

The overall results between the Tour Outsider and the Tour Insider year to date is, 12 wins to the Tour Outsider, 5 wins to the Tour Insider, and 5 draws.

Tour Outsider: AT&T Classic

This week the US PGA Tour moves up from Florida to Georgia to play the AT&T Classic at Greg Norman's Sugarloaf design.

BTW: Norman is in the field this week to play the course he designed at Sugarloaf.

Let's look at the Golf CLi and see who the top 15 players are for the tournament ranked by the CLi figure.

Rank Player CLi
1 S Ben Crane 6.35
2 S Briny Baird 7.70
3 S Stewart Cink 11.40
4 S Shane Bertsch 14.40
5 S Dean Wilson 26.25
6 S Parker McLachlin 27.50
7 S Kevin Sutherland 28.25
8 S Camilo Villegas 31.55
9 S Steve Flesch 33.40
10 S Brian Gay 34.05
11 S Marco Dawson 34.35
12 S Retief Goosen 34.80
13 S Steve Elkington 34.90
14 S Bob Tway 35.80
15 S Billy Andrade

This week there are two players with CLis less than 10: Crane and Baird. So I will go with them. Then I like Cink because this is basically his home course and he has been playing well of late. After that, the CLis go into the high-20s and low-30s. So my next two picks are going to be based upon gut feel. Those would be Villegas and Flesch.

So the Tour Outsider picks for the AT&T Classic are:

Rank Player CLi
1 S Ben Crane 6.35
2 S Briny Baird 7.70
3 S Stewart Cink 11.40
4 S Camilo Villegas 31.55
5 S Steve Flesch 33.40

The Tour Insider's (Dave Shedloski) picks are:

We have 3 players in common in this tournament: Cink, Crane and Villegas.

Tour Outsider: The PLAYERS Championship Review

It is now time to review the picks for The PLAYERS Championship to see how the results turned out.

Here are the results of the Tour Outsider (my) picks.

Rank Player CLi Rank Earnings
Rd4 Rd3 Rd2 Rd1 Actual
1 S Adam Scott 4.45 54 20 37 91 $21,280
2 S Phil Mickelson 9.65 21 4 13 9 $95,000
3 S Padraig Harrington 11.25 MC MC 90 35 $0
4 S Stewart Cink 14.15 21 34 37 23 $95,000
5 S Geoff Ogilvy 32.80 MC MC 107) 111 $0

Well, first of all, my pick of Ogivly (14th in the CLi rankings) was not a good one. However, on the bright side, if I had picked Singh instead, I would not have been in a much better position. Both players missed the cut.

Here are the results of the Tour Insider (Dave Shedloski) picks.

Here is the comparison between the Tour Outsider and Tour Insider picks.

Tour Outsider Tour Insider Winner
Total Earnings $211,280 $146,110 TO

The Total Earnings category was won by the Tour Outsider.

The Tour Insider won the Avg Rank category.

Tour Outsider: The PLAYERS Championship

This week the US PGA Tour is at Sawgrass in Florida playing it's gem of a tournament: The PLAYERS Championship.

Let's look at the Golf CLi and see who the top 15 players are for the tournament ranked by the CLi figure.

Rank Player CLi
1 S Adam Scott 4.45
2 S Phil Mickelson 9.65
3 S Padraig Harrington 11.25
4 S Stewart Cink 14.15
5 S Vijay Singh 15.75
6 S Mathew Goggin 17.35
7 S Jim Furyk 18.55
8 S Retief Goosen 22.60
9 S Henrik Stenson 26.50
10 S Brandt Snedeker 28.20
11 S Boo Weekley 30.50
12 S Lee Westwood 30.95
13 S Stephen Ames 31.50
14 S Geoff Ogilvy 32.80
15 S Steve Elkington 33.10

I am going to go with the top 4 in the CLi rankings. Actually the top 5 all look good. However, I am going to do something strange this week and go all the way down to the 14th player in the CLi rankings to pick Ogilvy. I just have a funny feeling that Ogilvy will made the cut and perform well this week. Singh, who is the 5th player in the CLi rankings, would love to win this tournament as he is a local Ponte Vedra Beach resident. However, he might be pushing himself too much to win the tournament because of that.

So the Tour Outsider picks for the PLAYERS Championship are:

Rank Player CLi
1 S Adam Scott 4.45
2 S Phil Mickelson 9.65
3 S Padraig Harrington 11.25
4 S Stewart Cink 14.15
5 S Geoff Ogilvy 32.80

The Tour Insider's (Dave Shedloski) picks are:

We have 2 players in common in this tournament: Mickelson and Scott.

Tour Outsider: Wachovia Championship Review

It is now time to review the picks for the Wachovia Championship to see how the results turned out.

Here are the results of the Tour Outsider (my) picks.

Rank Player CLi Rank Earnings
Rd4 Rd3 Rd2 Rd1 Actual
1 S Adam Scott 5.50 8 11 66 48 $179,200
2 S Jim Furyk 6.45 7 6 3 24 $214,400
3 S Vijay Singh 7.10 17 8 8 13 $89,600
4 S Geoff Ogilvy 8.60 22 6 8 13 $66,560
5 S Phil Mickelson 9.70 12 11 25 2 $125,440

This week was good. All 5 players made the cut, and the average rank was 13.2. The worst finish for a player in the group of 5 was 22nd (Ogilvy). Not bad.

There was one thing that I missed on, and that was Anthony Kim. I specifically skipped over him in the CLi rankings and he ended up winning the tournament for his first US PGA Tour event win. Good for Kim.

Here are the results of the Tour Insider (Dave Shedloski) picks.

Here is the comparison between the Tour Outsider and Tour Insider picks.

Tour Outsider Tour Insider Winner
