The US PGA Tour is in Akron, Ohio this week to play the Bridgestone Invitational.

Let's look at the Golf CLi and see who the top 15 players are for the tournament ranked by the CLi figure.

Rank Player CLi
1 Jim Furyk 4.85
2 Tiger Woods 5.25
3 Vijay Singh 8.50
4 Angel Cabrera 14.25
5 Stewart Cink 17.65
6 David Toms 18.10
7 Rory Sabbatini 18.75
8 Colin Montgomerie 18.85

12 J.J. Henry 24.70
13 Luke Donald 24.75
14 Ian Poulter 24.80
15 K.J. Choi 24.90

Furyk, Woods, and Singh all look like good picks for the tournament as they play well on the Firestone course. Not sure about Cabrera on this course, so will pass on him. Then will pick Cink and Toms to round my five picks.

So the Tour Outsider picks for the Bridgestone Invitational are:

Rank Player CLi
1 Jim Furyk 4.85
2 Tiger Woods 5.25
3 Vijay Singh 8.50
4 Stewart Cink 17.65
5 David Toms 18.10

The Tour Insider's (Dave Shedloski) picks are:

This week we have 2 players in common: Woods and Furyk.

Here are the results of the Tour Insider (Dave Shedloski) picks.

Shedloski had a winner and a 2nd place this week. However, he did have 1 player miss the cut.

Here is the comparison between the Tour Ousider and Tour Insider picks.

Tour Outsider: Canadian Open

The US PGA Tour comes back across the big pond (the Atlantic Ocean) after playing the British Open last week to go north of the US border to play the Canadian Open.

Let's look at the Golf CLi and see who the top 15 players are for the tournament ranked by the CLi figure.

Rank Player CLi
1 Jim Furyk 3.35
2 Hunter Mahan 15.25
3 Vijay Singh 16.20
4 Mike Weir 22.65
5 Neal Lancaster 23.20
6 Pat Perez 24.00
7 Jeff Sluman 24.30
8 Troy Matteson 24.90
9 Jay Williamson 26.55
10 Steve Flesch 26.70
11 Justin Leonard 27.20
12 Nathan Green 27.50
13 Joe Ogilvie 27.90
14 Steve Allan 28.45
15 Billy Andrade 28.80

The top 4 players are looking good in this list: Furyk, Mahan, Singh, and Weir. It would be nice to see Weir win it for Canada. Hopefully he plays well this week and doesn't put too much pressure on himself to win the tournament.

As for the 5th pick, I will go with Pat Perez. He is playing well of late, however, a little sporatic. If he can play well in the first round, he should finish well in the tournament. Hopefully he doesn't do a WD, which he has become accustom to doing when he starts a tournament off badly.

So the Tour Outsider picks for the Canadian Open are:

Rank Player CLi
1 Jim Furyk 3.35
2 Hunter Mahan 15.25
3 Vijay Singh 16.20
4 Mike Weir 22.65
6 Pat Perez 24.00

The Tour Insider's (Dave Shedloski) picks are:

This week we have 3 players in common: Furyk, Weir, and Singh.

Tour Outsider: British Open Review

It is now time to review the picks for the British Open to see how the results turned out.

Here are the results of the Tour Outsider (my) picks.

Rank Player CLi Rank Earnings
Rd4 Rd3 Rd2 Rd1 Actual
1 Tiger Woods 5.40 12 15 20 8 $119,455
2 Scott Verplank 13.50 57 45 42 39 $22,026
3 Vijay Singh 13.70 27 10 20 39 $57,470
4 K.J. Choi 20.30 8 3 2 8 $193,241
5 Niclas Fasth 26.10 35 45 31 104 $41,008

Had 1 top 10, and all 5 players made the cut, which works out nice for a major tournament like the British Open. However, looks like several of the players that I passed over to pick Niclas Fasth did better than Fasth, including Els (placed 4th) and Furyk (placed 12th). Also the CLi did well in predicting Hunter Mahan playing well. He finished 6th.

Here are the results of the Tour Insider (Dave Shedloski) picks.

Shedloski saw 2 of his picks miss the cut. They, however, still earned some money, as the British Open pays players even if they miss the cut.

Here is the comparison between the Tour Ousider and Tour Insider picks.

Tour Ousider Tour Insider Winner
Total Earnings $433,200 $299,789 TO
Avg Rank 27.8 42.0 TO
Made Cut 5 3 TO

The Tour Outsider won the Total Earnings category.

The Tour Outsider won the Avg Rank category.

The Tour Outsider won the Made Cut category.

This tournament was won by the Tour Outsider.

The overall results between the Tour Outsider and the Tour Insider to date is, 8 wins to the Tour Outsider, 3 wins to the Tour Insider, and 3 draws.

Tour Outsider: British Open

The US PGA Tour goes across the big pond (the Atlantic Ocean) for the 3rd major of the year: The British Open.

Let's look at the Golf CLi and see who the top 15 players are for the tournament ranked by the CLi figure.

Rank Player CLi
1 Tiger Woods 5.40
2 Scott Verplank 13.50
3 Vijay Singh 13.70
4 Loren Roberts 16.10
5 Phil Mickelson 16.20
6 K.J. Choi 20.30
7 Colin Montgomerie 20.30
8 Jim Furyk 20.70
9 Carl Pettersson 22.70
10 Ernie Els 23.30
11 Hunter Mahan 23.60
12 Sean O'Hair 25.40
13 Niclas Fasth 26.10
14 David Toms 26.10
15 Tom Lehman 28.90

There are some nice players in this list. So it is hard to pass up on some of the big boys, however, I am going to.

I am going to pick the 3 top players in the CLi list. Then after that am going to skip down to K.J. Choi and then down to Fasth for my last two picks. Choi is playing well, having won 2 of the last two tournaments he has played in. Fasth has been playing well too, including on the hard Oakmont Country Club course last month in the U.S. Open.

That means I am passing up on Mickelson, Montgomerie, Furyk and Els to name a few of the big boys in the list which I didn't pick.

So the Tour Outsider picks for the British Open are:

Rank Player CLi
1 Tiger Woods 5.40
2 Scott Verplank 13.50
3 Vijay Singh 13.70
4 K.J. Choi 20.30
5 Niclas Fasth 26.10

The Tour Insider's (Dave Shedloski) picks are:

It is interesting that Shedloski picked Angel Cabrera to play well at the British Open after having won at Oakmont last month in the U.S. Open. If Cabrera wins the British after winning the U.S., then that would be a feat in and of itself for European golf as he plays most of his golf on the European PGA Tour.

This week we have 1 player in common: Tiger Woods.

All 5 players made the cut, which is nice. However, did not have a pick in the top 10, which has been unusual of late.

Here are the results of the Tour Insider (Dave Shedloski) picks.

Shedloski saw 2 of his picks miss the cut.

The US PGA Tour goes from the nation's capital (Washington D.C.) to the heart of the mid-west for the John Deere Classic.

Let's look at the Golf CLi and see who the top 15 players are for the tournament ranked by the CLi figure.

Rank Player CLi

4 Vijay Singh 16.95 12 21 6 1 $110,571
5 Adam Scott 17.15 MC MC 98 63 $0

Ouch, O'Hern didn't play so well. He actually came in 4th to last out of a 120 player field, which is very uncharacteristic of him. As well, Adam Scott decided to miss another cut. Two ouches.

Here are the results of the Tour Insider (Dave Shedloski) picks.

Shedloski also got hit by two player: Scott missing the cut and Sabbatini not in the tournament field.

Here is the comparison between the Tour Ousider and Tour Insider picks.

Tour Ousider Tour Insider Winner

Tour Outsider: AT&T National

The US PGA Tour goes to the nation's capital, Washington D.C. for "Tiger's tournament": the AT&T National. This tournament is taking the place of The International (Colorado), which was canceled for various reasons (do your research to find out why).

Let's look at the Golf CLi and see who the top 15 players are for the tournament ranked by the CLi figure.

Rank Player CLi
1 Nick O'Hern 5.90
2 Brian Davis 10.60
3 Jim Furyk 14.30

12 Tim Herron 23.85
13 Justin Leonard 25.60
14 Brian Gay 25.75
15 Billy Andrade 27.80

As with last week, I am going to stick with the top 5 of the CLi.

So the Tour Outsider picks for the AT&T National are:

Rank Player CLi
1 Nick O'Hern 5.90
2 Brian Davis 10.60
3 Jim Furyk 14.30
4 Vijay Singh 16.95

The Tour Insider's (Dave Shedloski) picks are:

This week we have 1 player in common: Adam Scott.

What is interesting about Shedloski's picks is that he has included Rory Sabbatini, who, as I can tell so far, is not in the tournament's field.

Tour Outsider: Buick Open Review

It is now time to review the picks for the Buick Open to see how the results turned out.

Here are the results of the Tour Outsider (my) picks.

Rank Player CLi Rank Earnings
Rd4 Rd3 Rd2 Rd1 Actual
1 Jim Furyk 3.25 5 5 1 5 $166,110
2 Kenny Perry 5.95 10 5 1 73 $108,617
3 Scott Verplank 7.90 5 2 4 5 $166,110
4 Sean O'Hair 10.25 27 32 57 73 $33,320
5 Woody Austin 11.85 2 5 7 2 $365,867

This week was rather good. All 5 picks made the cut, and better yet, all but 1 were in the top 10...O'Hair placed 27th. The only thing missing was picking the player who won. However, it would have been difficult to predict that Brian Bateman would win his first tournament this week. Good for him. He played college golf at LSU when I was on the SMU golf team. As well, we played in AJGA tournaments as junior golfers. It is good to see him be able to make the 12-foot putt on the last to close the deal.

Here are the results of the Tour Insider (Dave Shedloski) picks.

Gore was a nice pick for Shedloski. Gore closed with a 66 in the final round to move up 13 spots and earn a 2nd place finish.

Here is the comparison between the Tour Ousider and Tour Insider picks.

Tour Ousider Tour Insider Winner
Total Earnings $840,023 $807,357 TO
Avg Rank 9.8 11.0 TO
Made Cut 5 5 DRAW

The Tour Outsider won the Total Earnings category by only $33,000. It was a close running in this category.

The Tour Outsider won the Avg Rank category by a small margin of 1.2. Again, another close category this week.

The Made Cut category was a draw with both having all of their picks make the cut. Nice week for the picks.

It was a close running this week which made it fun to watch. This tournament was won by the Tour Outsider.

The overall results between the Tour Outsider and the Tour Insider to date is, 5 wins to the Tour Outsider, 3 win to the Tour Insider, and 3 draws.
